Malaysia Today Blogging Portal is Blocked
Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has ordered Malaysia largest ISP TMNET to block controversial online blog portal “Malaysia-Today.net”. The website now re-directed from http://mt.m2day.org
“It is being blocked because we found that some of the comments on the website were insensitive, bordering on incitement,” he told Malaysiakini. Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi confirmed that the block was ordered by the commission.
Malaysia Today is often controversial with commentaries which the government finds distasteful. Though the government purports to allow free speech this action from the MCMC which is a government regulatory body is the complete opposite.
Such an action runs counter to the guarantee of no-censorship under the Multimedia Super Corridor regime. Do you think that it violates the citizens right to freedom of expression and their right to access to information?
