What is “Ping” stand for? Technically “Ping” is a program that sends a series of packets over a network or Internet to a specific computer in  order to generate a response from computer. Ping means “to get the attention of” or “to check for the presence of” another party online. Ping operates by sending a packet to a designated address and waiting for a response. Another meaning for “Ping” is the computer acronym (for Packet Internet or Inter-Network Groper) was contrived to match the submariners’ term for the sound of a returned sonar pulse. Another word, “Ping” is sometimes refer to Pingbacks.

When you want to announce to the world that you have made a new blog posting, you need to ping it! Many blogs automatically ping blog search engines every time the blogger creates a new post. The ping sends a special signal (XML-RPC) to notify blog search engines “ping servers”, that a Blogger has made a new post on his or her blog. Then the blog search engines will provide fresh results very quickly by checking only recently published blogs. After that they will add them to a list of blogs that having a new content.

It is important to blog and ping to let blog tracking and blog indexing services including your favourite rss aggregator know that you have updated your blog. How to add Ping address in your wordpress blog? If you login to Wordpress dashboard, and then go to Options -> Writing. At the bottom you see a form for Update Services - “When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies the following site update services.”

A pre-installed option in your wordpress blog using which you can notify the popular update services about your latest content on your blogs. However it is generally considered a risk if you keep pinging the same content again and a good suggestion is to add a list of pinging services in the Update Services section and ping the content only once.
