12 Things to Avoid in SEO

The Major search engines such as Google are programmed to detect unnatural activity on a website. If the infraction is deemed minor it will slap your site with a penalty which usually involves a reduction in ranking over a several day span. If you fix the problem right away the penalty will usually lift after about one to two months. However, if the infraction is deemed more serious it will take much longer to get out of trouble or they may deem your site to be removed from their index. The problem facing by webmasters is nobody at any of the search engine companies are going to tell you what you did incorrectly and they also would not going to tell you what type of penalty you will faced.
The following is a list of quality control guidelines that Google has put an effort to keep the web healthy:

  1. Do not use Hidden text and links
  2. Do not Cloaking, sneaky Javascript redirects, and doorway pages
  3. Do not send automated queries
  4. Do not Keywords Stuffing
  5. Do not Duplicate content
  6. Do not perform Link schemes
  7. Do not practice of buying and selling links
  8. Never Keyword Spam - Do not spam or hide your pages with the keywords you are attempting to target.
  9. Do not Use Frames - Websites with frames consider unfriendly to search engines and will prevent from getting a good ranking. Try to avoid using frames whenever possible.
  10. Do not Use Flash Or Javascript - Refrain from using Flash or Javascript elements if possible. The dynamic scripts does not contain much content in terms of words and the search engines generally do not like them.
  11. Do not Submit Your Site Too Frequent - If your site was not indexed after one week, re-submit your URL to the search engines after 3 weeks. If you do this too often within a week, the search engines will consider that you are spamming.
  12. Do not Use Unrelated Keywords In Your Meta Tags - If you are selling hair loss products, do not place all the health care products in your “Keywords” meta tag. Some webmasters use popular keywords in their metatags in an attempt to attract more traffic, but this does not work, as the search engines only look at their relevancy to of your web page.
